Role-Models
  • Tell us about your favorite role-model, if you have one, and how this person has influenced you.

  • I'm glad puff_dancer that your teacher inspires you to work hard. However, if you're like most dancers I know, the difficulty lies in pacing yourself. Listen to your body. If you're tired, sore, or injured it's important to adjust your work schedule. A full day off each week also improves your strength and stamina by allowing recovery time. Role-models serve as wonderful guides for what we want to become. This doesn't mean you have to do everything their way to succeed.

  • Just one of my role models is one of my teachers. She grew up in a dance school in Russia and came to the US all by herself when she was in her late teens. She has such a drive and such courage! She makes me push myself harder every day!

I don't think I ever had a role model. However, as a total Alpha personality I always kept pushing myself - I didn't seem to realize that maybe I couldn't do something. I do think I was realistic about what I could do though - I didn't expect ever to give Itzac Pearlman a run for his money, but I did think that most first violin orchestral parts were within my reach if I exerted myself.

My role-model is my husband. He isn't a performer but he has a very healthy work ethic. If I were to pick a Broadway performer, it would be Bebe Neuwirth because she just keeps on getting better with age. I really admire her stamina.
